Quinoa: the Superfood!

I’ve had a love affair with quinoa for many years now. It’s a superfood pseudo-grain that’s a complete protein and has all the essential amino acids, as well as anti-inflammatory properties, and heart-healthy fats. All amazing reasons to consider eating more quinoa, except that we love it simply because it’s delicious.

It’s also such a versatile grain. Have it for breakfast in lieu of cereal, add it in your favorite salads for lunch, and serve it as a side with your main meal for dinner. You really can’t go wrong however you choose to enjoy it.

Quinoa + Chocolate + Orange = Love.

Speaking of healthy choices… can someone agree that chocolate is healthy? But not just any kind will do – it has to be good quality dark chocolate. Amen.

Chocolate goes hand in hand with celebrations and special moments. And why wouldn’t it? It takes us back to the good ‘ol days where we had little cares in the world. At least that’s what chocolate does for me. But when you’re on a limited diet due to food allergies, it can get challenging at times to try and find a chocolate-y treat that isn’t well… boring.

That’s where thinking outside the box really comes in handy. 

So I thought, why not pair chocolate with quinoa and turn it into something decadent? Well, guess what? I pulled it off!

I give you the BEST chocolate morsels you’ll likely indulge in. Ever. A priority allergen-free treat that’s healthy and so easy to make you can’t not make them.

I know it sounds too good to be true but fear not – thanks to the power of quinoa and all of its amazing health benefits, you can enjoy these delicious Chocolate Orange Quinoa Puff Bites with no regret!

Ingredients List

All you need are the following:

  • Puffed quinoa
  • Orange zest
  • Dairy free dark chocolate of choice
  • A bit of coconut oil
  • A tad rice syrup
  • A hint of vanilla 

That’s it! 

I hadn’t heard of Quinoa Puffs until just recently – and I’ve been hooked on them ever since. They’re quinoa grains that have been exposed to high pressurized heat which allows them to pop. Genius!

These puffs can be used in a myriad of ways – as cereal, as a topping, and in desserts, such as these incredible Chocolate Orange Quinoa Puff Bites!

For this recipe, I’d decided to lightly toast the puffs to give them an airy and crunchy texture. It’s not a necessary step, although I highly recommend you do the toasting because it really adds that crispness which complements the smooth texture of the chocolate. It’s a nice balance and your palate will thank you for it.

The flavors were inspired by one of my favorite essential oils I had diffusing that morning I made this recipe – it’s a delicious blend that includes a hint of orange and vanilla.

So naturally, I paired these two ingredients with dark chocolate and ended up with the most amazing, melt-in-your-mouth, I-can’t-believe-these-are-even-remotely-healthy bite-sized morsels.

Chocolate Orange Quinoa Puff Bites

Delicious melt-in-your-mouth Chocolate Orange Quinoa Puff Bites are decadent morsels of goodness. Filled with good-for-you ingredients. This recipe is free of all common food allergens, is vegan, healthy, no bake, and most importantly, kid approved.


  • 1.5 cups of GoGo Quinoa quinoa puffs
  • The zest of 2 oranges {2 tbsp worth}
  • 2 cups of dairy free dark chocolate chips of your choice
  • 3 tbsp of coconut oil
  • 2 tbsp of rice syrup
  • 1/4 tsp of vanilla extract


  1. Line a baking/cookie sheet with parchment paper. Set aside.
  2. In a large skillet, toast quinoa puffs on medium heat for approximately 7 minutes, tossing occasionally to avoid burning them. Remove from heat and place in a large bowl. Set aside.
  3. In a double boiler, place 1 cup of chocolate chips and allow to melt.
  4. Once chocolate has melted, add coconut oil and stir until completely melted. Chocolate will be runny.
  5. Next, add rice syrup and continue to stir. You’ll notice chocolate has begun to thicken up. At this point, ingredients should be well blended together. Remove from heat.
  6. Add remaining 1 cup of dark chocolate chips to melted chocolate but do not stir just yet. Wait about 2 minutes then stir until chocolate has completely melted.
  7. Add orange zest and vanilla. Stir until fully incorporated.
  8. Then, add chocolate mix to toasted quinoa puffs and fold ingredients together until they come together. You can use a spatula or a flat wooden spoon for this step.
  9. Next, take a 1″ ice cream scoop and scoop chocolate quinoa mix onto prepared parchment-lined baking sheet. Alternatively, You can pick a mould of your choice and gently press mixture into each cavity.
  10. Place in the freezer for 10-15 minutes to set. You can also set in the fridge for a slightly longer period.
  11. Allow Chocolate Orange Quinoa Puff Bites to stand at room temperature for approximately 5 or so minutes before enjoying.
